Nageshwar Nath temple Ayodhya

Lullabies for Ralalala are heard in every street and every house of Ayodhya, the city of Lord Shri Ram. In this city of about 8 thousand monasteries and temples, every temple has its own distinct beliefs and traditions. Today we are going to tell you about one such temple, which was founded by Kush, son of Lord Ram. This is Nageshwar Nath temple here on the banks of Saryu bank. Here Lord Shankar is worshiped with proper rituals. On the day of Mahashivratri, lakhs of devotees perform Jalabhishek on Shivalinga at Nageshwar Nath temple.

This temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is situated in Ram Ki Paidi. It is believed that it was built by Kush, the younger son of Shri Ram. It is said that once while bathing in Saryu, Kush lost his armlet which was returned by a snake girl. The snake girl became fascinated by Kush, since she was a devotee of Shiva, hence Kush got this temple built for the snake girl. This temple was in good condition till the reign of King Vikramaditya.

In 1750, it was renovated by Naval Rai, the minister of Nawab Safdarjung. The festival of Shivratri is celebrated with great pomp in this temple, the Shiva procession here also has great significance. Lakhs of visitors and devotees are present here during the festival of Shivratri.

It is believed that Nageshwar Nath temple was founded by Kush, son of Lord Ram. It is believed that once Lord Shri Ram’s son Kush was bathing in Saryu, when his bracelet fell into the river. Kush searched for it for a long time, but could not find it. At the same time, there lived a king named Kumud in Saryu, who found the bracelet and gave it to his daughter. But as soon as Kush came to know about this, he started asking for the bracelet. But Kumud Raj refused to give.

As per the mythological tales, there was a lot of debate between Kush and Kumud Raj regarding Kada. Kumud Raj said that in our culture a gift given to a daughter is not taken back. But Kush was adamant on his point. The dispute now reached the level of war. Kush picked up his bow and decided to destroy the serpent dynasty from the earth. In such a situation, Kumud Raj appealed to Bholenath for protection. After which Lord Shiva appeared and pacified Kush.

According to the story, Lord Bholenath had pacified Kush, but the dispute was still going on. In such a situation, Lord Bholenath found a third way. He thought of marrying Lord Shri Ram’s son Kush to Kumudini, daughter of Kumud Nag. The problem was solved in this way. When everything was completed, Kush got Nageshwar Nath temple established at the same place where Bholenath ji had appeared. Where even today the devotees coming to Ayodhya do not forget to offer water to Shiva along with the darshan and worship in the monastery-temple.
