About Chardham tour
The Uttarakhand Chardham Yatra is one of the most revered pilgrimage circuits in India, encompassing four sacred Hindu shrines nestled amidst the majestic Himalayas in the state of Uttarakhand. The four sites, collectively known as Chardham, include Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath.
- Yamunotri: Situated at an altitude of 3,293 meters, Yamunotri is dedicated to Goddess Yamuna, the sister of Yama, the God of Death. The temple here marks the source of the Yamuna River, and pilgrims often take a dip in the holy waters before offering prayers.
- Gangotri: Positioned at an elevation of 3,100 meters, Gangotri is dedicated to Goddess Ganga, the holiest river in Hinduism. It is believed to be the place where Ganga descended from heaven to Earth. Pilgrims visit the temple to seek blessings and witness the awe-inspiring beauty of the surrounding Garhwal Himalayas.
- Kedarnath: Nestled at an altitude of 3,583 meters, Kedarnath is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple here is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas and holds immense significance among Hindu devotees. Pilgrims undertake a challenging trek or opt for mule or helicopter rides to reach this sacred site.
- Badrinath: Situated at an altitude of 3,133 meters, Badrinath is dedicated to Lord Vishnu in his Badri form. It is one of the Char Dhams and the most visited pilgrimage site among the four. The temple, nestled between Nar and Narayana peaks, is believed to be the abode of Lord Vishnu in his meditation form.
The Chardham Yatra typically commences from Yamunotri and Gangotri, proceeding to Kedarnath and concluding at Badrinath. The pilgrimage season usually spans from April/May to October/November, coinciding with favorable weather conditions in the region. Pilgrims undertake this spiritual journey to seek blessings, cleanse their sins, and attain spiritual enlightenment amidst the serene and divine ambiance of the Himalayas.
